CONTENTS : | When Gerard Hoffnung died at the age of 34 the world lost a cartoonist, broadcaster, raconteur, musician, impresario, and an utterly eccentric genius. This LP is a series of what are laughingly called interviews recorded with Charles Richardson (who barely gets a word in) for the BBC World Service and later broadcast on the old Light Programme. The tapes were destroyed and this record was only possible because a BBC engineer had copied some of the material for his own enjoyment, and some of Hoffnung's own home tapes were discovered after his death. The BBC engineers have worked on the tapes so we can now still enjoy the comedy genius of Gerard Hoffnung. |
